Cuckoo @ Old lodge 8th April 2012
I arrived at Weir Wood at 11:30am. From the hide I saw Grey Wagtail, 2 LRP's, 1 Green Sand, Sparrowhawk & 2 Buzzards and another Grey Wagtail from the Dam End.
Sadly the Dam is now fenced off and cannot be accessed whatsoever. This is personally a very sad day for me as I have had many enjoyable visits to the Dam. I've seen numerous waders at close range and this will probably never happen again.. The Dam can still be viewed from the South Bank; this is only good news if you are a member of the Friends of Weir Wood. If a real Rarity is ever found at the Dam end again, it's going to be touch and go whether it can me seen by a member, let alone anyone visiting.
Due to the fencing, I quickly gave up and headed to Old Lodge. On arrival at Old Lodge I heard a Willow Warbler and had a brief view. Good birds included a pair of Wood Larks, Lesser Redpolls, Linnets, Raven and whilst searching for the Redstarts (no sign), I could hear a distant Cuckoo. I didn't see one last year, so I decided to walk over in its general direction. I managed to get my scope onto it and get one blurred digiscope image of it just before it flew off.
